ADAMS POCKETS BIG BUCKS AND A BIG FEATURE WIN AT TOMAH

By: Paul Reichert July 30, 2021
Lots of prize giveaways and handing out of money made everybody a big winner on this night at Tomah-Sparta Speedway. For the kids it was Back to School Night with the annual Backpack Giveaway to help get them ready for the new school year coming soon. For the drivers in the TACU Credit Union Six Shooter division they finally got to run their first ever Six Shooter Mania event. TACU put down some extra money for the 20 lap main event making for a lot of hungry drivers on a mission for the big bucks. The night would be a huge windfall for rookie Six Shooter competitor Brandon Adams as he claimed the big first place check and his first career feature win at Daytomah.

Seth Gnewikow shot past Brandon Adams to lead his very first feature laps in the Six Shooter Mania 20 lap feature. Competing in the Six Shooter and High School Racing Association classes, the 14 year old youngster from Tomah would soon have a few drivers putting a ton of pressure on him. Adams, Chuck Muller, Adam Moore and Jestin DeLap, Sr. were swarming all over Gnewikow for the lead on lap six. Contact with Moore just before halfway caused Gnewikow to run wide in turn two and fall back to fifth while Adams took over the race lead. Action was slowed on lap 11 for debris in turn three. Adams pulled ahead of Muller on the restart and tried to open up his lead. Matt Moore was slicing and dicing his way through traffic as he got around Muller for second on lap 15. Moore only needed two laps to catch up to Adams as they began their battle over the win and the big payday. As they came to the white flag Moore began to slip back through the field with a punctured tire that sent him all the way back to fifth. Adams would have the greatest day a rookie could ever have as he claimed the big first place payday to go along with his first ever feature win at Tomah.

In the Clark Powersport of Hillsboro Modified feature Kevin Seidler got around Bill Schott to settle into the top spot at the start of the race. The ‘Sidewinder’ has been sidelined for the last few weeks with a variety of issues plaguing his race car, but tonight Seidler’s car looked like it was running on rails. Last week’s feature winner Nick Quinnell started in the back but would power his way around Bill Schott for second on lap five. Quinnell would eat away at Seidler’s lead and would be on his rear bumper just past the mid-race mark. Quinnell tried to look to the high line a few times in his quest for a second straight win, but Seidler got a better run on the low side out of the turns to maintain the #1 position. With three laps to go Quinnell tried to dive low on Seidler entering turn one. The two made contact but it would not deter Seidler as he saw the checkered flag first to take his first feature in a few years.

Henry Vian dove under Jim Hendricks, Jr. to take the lead early in the running of the Sportsmen feature. As Vian began to open up his lead Hendricks, Jr. and Dan Frye got into a hard fought battle over second. Frye got loose in turn two on lap five and that allowed Hendricks, Jr. to take over the runner-up spot. Over the next five laps Hendricks, Jr. would slowly close the gap on Vian and make the battle for the win a little more interesting. Hendricks, Jr. tried to look high a few times but Vian got on the power out of the turns a little quicker every time. Vian maintained a couple car lengths distance on Hendricks, Jr. to hit the finish line first and claim the win.

In the Hobby Stock feature Joey Johnson surged ahead of Andy Muller to take the race lead early on. For the first few laps of the race Johnson had to fend off the challenges of Shelby Lockington. Johnson’s chance of scoring a second gate- to-wire feature win went away when Chad Leis used the outside lane to drive around Johnson on lap six. Leis tried to pull away from the field but had a pair of pesky challengers in Andy Moore and Alex Rud trying to track him down. Moore moved to the outside on Leis with five laps to go beginning a long and hard fought battle for the win. Coming out of turn four for the checkered flag they made contact and Moore surged ahead of Leis to capture another checkered flag victory.

It seems that drivers from Jefferson Speedway really enjoying racing here at Daytomah. Just ask two-time Hobby Stock champion Jeffrey LeFave, Jr.. Making his first visit to Tomah from Jefferson, Tyler White surged ahead of Matt Bean to lead the start of the Oops! Saloon and Grill by Angie Hornet feature. Bean would rally back around White on lap four to take over the number one position. Paul Finch got around White for second on lap six and would methodically begin to reel in Bean for the race lead. Finch used the outside lane to power his way around Bean to become the new leader with five laps to go. A lap later points leader Mason Morphy and defending track champion Shawn McCarthy both got around Bean and sent him back to fourth place. With two laps to go Morphy caught up on Finch to challenge him for win number five. Unlike last week Finch was able to fight off the challenges of the yellow 9 machine to notch his first feature win this season.

Action continues next Friday, August 6 with the exciting Chaos division running the always wild and wacky Outhouse Race. Do not miss this race because you never know what surprise any one of the competitors has for when they come out of the outhouse. The Modifieds, Sportsmen, Hobby Stocks, Hornets, Six Shooters and the High School Racing Association will also make the show even more entertaining. Gates open at 5:00, qualifying starts at 6:00 and the racing action takes the green flag at 7:30.
