Corso Sweeps Hawkeye Mid-American.

The Mid-American Stock Cars presented by Quest Industrial trekked south to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Iowa Donor Night 40 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. McHenry, Illinios Rick Corso took home all the hardware.

Hawkeye’s own Mike Mitchell and Landry Potter brought the field to the green flag for 40 laps of Mid-American racing.

Potter jumped out to lead lap 1 with Kenny Joosten close behind. Potter and Joosten battled for the next few laps before Joosten took the lead on lap 4.

A spin by Bobby Gutknecht on lap 9 brought out the lane cone. On the restart Corso started along side Joosten. A tight battle for the lead ensured between Joosten and Corso until a spin by Mitchell on lap 15 slowed the field again.

The restart now had Corso and Ron Vandermeir on the front row. Another tight battle for the lead took place between Corso and Vandermeir for several laps. Vandermeir got by Corso an lap 17 only yo have Corso muscle his way back around him on lap 23.

Meanwhile as the leaders were battling it out. Point leader Dan Gilster was closing in until a brush with the front stretch wall slowed him and he settled for a 3rd place finish. Early race leader Kenny Joosten fell to 4th and Taylor Dawson rounded out the top 5.
