KANE TOO LIGHT, LUCK WAS LUCKY in Great Northern Icebreaker

By: Aspen Andre (Wisconsin Dells, WI – April 9, 2017) The Great Northern Sportsman Series presented by Dean’s Satellite and Security opened the 2017 race season as part of the Dells Raceway Park Icebreaker weekend. It was a beautiful day for the 3rd Annual Icebreaker 100 at Dells Raceway Park today. Qualifying took a little longer to finish due to a couple of oil leaks on the track but once the track was clear we dropped the green flag and went racing.

In what looked to be a follow up to his Dells Raceway Park Falloween win last year, Minnesota’s Brent Kane found that that story line was not going to happen as after his win at Dells Raceway Park on Sunday, as he failed the post-race inspection for being too light. As for the man who finished second was North Freedom, WI’s Scott Luck, his last name proved to be a winner as Luck was the declared the 40 lap feature winner.

Kane, Luck, and Sparta’s Jason Stark, the 2016 La Crosse Speedway Sportsmen Rookie of the Year and now Dells Raceway Park full time competitor showed the field how strong their stock cars were as after lap 9 they pulled away from the field. While the trio was showing the way Wehrs Machine quick time qualifier Dave Trute found himself having a hard time getting out of the mid pack of the feature event. In the closing laps Trute found his way to freedom and finished third. 22 sportsmen drivers from 3 states, representing 9 Midwest racetracks were in attendance. The next event for the Great Northern Sportsman presented by Dean’s Satellite and Security will be Friday June 16 at the Tomah-Sparta Raceway.
